Karen Baxter
Interim CEO Royal College of Pharmacy
My career as a pharmacist started in hospital and progressed into education and training. This inspired a passion for how good drug information sources can support practice. This, combined with a Clinical Pharmacy MSc encompassing drug interactions, made a role with Stockley’s Drug Interactions a natural next step. What followed was a career in healthcare publishing, leading digital change programmes focussed on improving information delivery to those on the frontline.
Building on a deep understanding of publishing and having led significant change programmes to transform PhP into a more digitally focused organisation, I became managing director of PhP in 2018.
In 2022, I extended in my role to become the deputy chief executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), where I used my experience of driving change and my passion for patient safety to lead and implement the organisation’s transformation into a royal college. I took up my current role as chief executive in April 2026, when RPS became the Royal College of Pharmacy.

My research has led and informed the development of pharmacy and pharmacy education in the UK and globally I have also set the agenda in pharmacy education research and development through work with international Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). I have published over 200 peer reviewed papers and several book and book chapters.
