How many drugs are in British National Formulary (BNF)?

More than 1,500 drugs are listed in BNF, including all those available within the National Health Service (NHS).

Please complete the form at the bottom of this article to request a complimentary trial of MedicinesComplete.

To access the drugs listed in BNF, MedicinesComplete users can click “browse our publications”, on the homepage, then “BNF”. Clicking on “drugs” will bring up an A-Z list, which can be filtered by name or class.

Users simply select the relevant BNF drug monograph and use the subsections in the left-hand panel to navigate to the available information. The “related content” tab provides a quick link to references to the selected drug in other MedicinesComplete publications.

To help guide clinical decision making, all BNF entries are graded according to the strength of supporting evidence. Using the “evidence grading” toggle, at the top of each drug entry page, will highlight the recommendations in the page. Hovering the cursor over the letter symbol following the recommendation (‘A’ to ‘E’ or ‘M’ symbol) will reveal the strength of the recommendation.
